DNS lookup
Check which DNS records a domain returns right now — useful when a site moved hosts, email stopped arriving, or a verification TXT record isn't found.
Which record do I need?
| Record | What it does |
|---|---|
A / AAAA | Points a name at an IPv4 / IPv6 address — where your website lives. |
CNAME | Makes a name an alias of another name, e.g. www → your host. |
MX | Mail servers that receive email for the domain, with priorities. |
NS | The nameservers that are authoritative for the domain. |
TXT | Free text: SPF, DKIM, DMARC and site verification codes. |
CAA | Which certificate authorities may issue TLS certificates for the domain. |
SOA | Zone details: primary nameserver, serial number and negative-cache time. |

Frequently asked questions
Why do I see different DNS results than a colleague?
Resolvers cache records for their TTL (time to live). After a change, some resolvers still return the old answer until the cached copy expires. This tool asks Cloudflare's public resolver, 1.1.1.1.
What does NXDOMAIN mean?
The domain name doesn't exist in DNS — it was mistyped, never created, or the domain expired or lost its nameservers. See our guide to DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN.
How long does a DNS change take to show up?
Usually minutes, but resolvers may keep the old value until its TTL runs out. Lower the TTL a day before a planned change so the switch-over is quicker.
