Status page domains

Every status page gets its own address on pingrobot.io. On the Pro plan you can also put it on your own domain, such as status.yourcompany.com.

Your pingrobot.io subdomain (every plan)

A status page with the address acme is available at both:

Nothing to set up: the subdomain works as soon as the page exists. Change the address in the page's settings and the subdomain changes with it.

Your own domain (Pro)

  1. In PingRobot, open Status pages, choose the page and enter your domain under Custom domain, for example status.yourcompany.com.
  2. At your DNS provider, add one record:
    TypeNameValue
    CNAMEstatus (or status.yourcompany.com)custom.pingrobot.io
  3. Wait for the record to show up, usually a few minutes. We check it, issue an HTTPS certificate for your domain automatically, and the page goes live. Click Check again in PingRobot to see the current state.

Good to know

  • Use a subdomain. A bare domain (yourcompany.com) can't be pointed with a CNAME record, and A records aren't supported. status. is the usual choice.
  • DNS on Cloudflare? Set the record to DNS only (grey cloud), not proxied.
  • Extra TXT record. If the domain doesn't validate with the CNAME alone (some DNS setups block it), PingRobot shows a TXT record to add as well. Add it exactly as shown.
  • CAA records. If your domain has CAA records, they must allow the certificate authorities Cloudflare issues from (such as Let's Encrypt and Google Trust Services), or the certificate can't be issued.
  • Leaving Pro. If the account moves to the Free plan, the custom domain sends visitors to the page's pingrobot.io address for 30 days, then it's removed. Upgrade again within those 30 days and it keeps working as before.

Why a status page on your own domain

Customers trust status.yourcompany.com more than a third-party address, it's easy to remember during an outage, and you can link it from your app's error pages. Keep the status page on a different provider from your main site, which PingRobot already is, so it stays up when your own servers don't.
